Arcade Patches
Translations, restorations and arranged soundtracks for classic arcade games.

A lot of great arcade games never made it out of Japan, and plenty of others had their best material added later, on the home ports. Re-recorded soundtracks, cutscenes the arcade version never had, characters that turned up years afterward. The patches here put that work back onto the arcade hardware it belongs on.

Each one runs against your own copy of the game, on a real board, on a MiSTer, or in MAME. No game data is hosted here, and nothing goes out until it has been tested on the real thing.

Audio Arrangements

When Capcom and SNK brought their arcade games home on CD, they re-recorded the music. These put those soundtracks back under the arcade games on MiSTer, while every punch, voice and jingle still comes from the game's own sound hardware.

CPS+

Arranged CD-era soundtracks for CPS-1 & CPS-2 arcade games on MiSTer

When Capcom brought its arcade games home on CD, it sent the music back to the studio and re-recorded it. Those versions never made it back to the arcade. CPS+ puts them there. Pick a game on your MiSTer and the arranged soundtrack is just playing, while every punch, voice and jingle still comes from the arcade board itself.

NG+

Arranged Neo Geo CD soundtracks for Neo Geo arcade games on MiSTer

SNK re-recorded the music for its Neo Geo CD releases, but the CD versions came with long loads and cut animation. NG+ plays those arranged soundtracks under the original cartridge games on MiSTer: the arcade game, whole and without loading, with the CD's music.

Restorations

Some games lost things on the way out of Japan: quotes, endings, even characters, or the ability to run outside Japan at all. Others never left Japan, or never reached the arcade in their final form. A restoration brings the Japanese game back, in English where it needs it, and leaves the rest of the game as it was.

Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors

English restoration · Vampire: The Night Warriors (Japan 940705)

The Japanese Vampire in English, presented as Darkstalkers: every fighter’s win quotes, the complete endings, the continue advice and the voices the USA version left out.

Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter

English restoration · Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter (Japan 970707)

The US board left things out: no Norimaro, generic endings for the secret fighters, and half the win quotes. This puts it all back, in English, and changes nothing else.

Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge

English restoration · Vampire Hunter: Darkstalkers' Revenge (Japan 950316)

Capcom's 2006 PlayStation 2 anthology carried the final revision of Alpha 2 Gold, the console edition of Alpha 2 that brought Cammy into the roster. It was never released on arcade hardware. This rebuilds it as a real CPS-2 game, in four regional builds, for emulators, MiSTer, and real hardware.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper

NAOMI GD-ROM multi-region patch · Street Fighter Zero 3 Upper (Japan, GDL-0002)

Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha

English restoration · Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha (Asia 960826)

Zero 2 Alpha's English script was a cut-down one: shorter story scenes, a handful of random win quotes, and no ending of his own for Evil Ryu. This puts the whole Japanese script back, in English.

English restoration · Super Street Fighter II X: Grand Master Challenge (Japan 940311)

Vampire Savior

English restoration · Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire (Japan 970519)

Hardware Extensions

Some backports need more than the original hardware had. An extension gives an arcade system more memory on MiSTer and in HBMAME, and the original games still run on it unchanged.

CPS-2+ hardware

An extended CPS-2 system for MiSTer and HBMAME

Capcom's CPS-2 with more program memory, graphics, QSound samples and sound program. Vampire Savior 2 Arrange and Night Warriors 2 Arrange need it.
